The design sketch above shows the final West Elevation of the proposed accessory building. The West Elevation views out over a natural wooded hillside towards the Willamette River. The sunsets will be spectacular.

When I last wrote to you about this project (See the article titled ‘Oregon Farm, Update 1′) I was in the process of finalizing the master plan and was at the beginning of developing the architectural design and floor plans.

As a reminder, the project scope of work being provided by my design studio Aroundyou is to develop a master plan, architectural design of an accessory building and initial landscape plan for a 40 acre farm in the state of Oregon.

The master plan and interior floor plans are confidential at the owner’s request. I can share with you additional photos on my Flickr account (Set titled ‘Oregon Farm – Update 2) that show the positioning of the accessory building on the site, the existing views and landscape. Additional photos show concepts of exterior materials, finishes and colors. The overall aesthetic is to depict a traditional monitor style barn with a contemporary twist. The monitor or step-up portion of the building is accented with 2′ x 3′ windows that run the length of the South and North elevation of the building. This allows for light to flood into the interior space from a height of 35′; creating a cathedral type effect. I recently visited the site with the owner to walk through the site plan. As many of you know, the Pacific Northwest can be rather dodgy when it comes to cold wet rain. However, this day was one of the first warm, dry, sunny days of Spring with views of Mount Hood and the Cascade Range. Absolutely Beautiful!! The Best! We spent the day on-site looking at view corridors and flagged the rough locations of proposed buildings. Also on this trip we meet with the contractor to discuss the construction and budget portion of the project; we also meet with the vendor that will be constructing the new driveway and installing the new septic. We even had time to stop into a local nursery to check out current tree stock. The evening was capped off at the owners family farm for a BBQ. Yes, we were busy! but what a wonderful day.

At this time we are working with the contractor on finalizing the budget of the accessory building. We are also working with other vendors regarding the specification of:

-Electrical Service
-Driveway Construction
-Landscape Grading
-Tree Planting Plan

We are projecting to break ground around the end of July beginning of August 2012. I will keep you posted on the projects progress. Stay tuned!
